North Star And Consumer Shows
Bring the Big Show Home
Outdoor fireworks shows, in general, can be classified into two categories: professional and consumer. This distinction occurs for three main reasons: (1) budget constraints, (2) the distance between the crowd and the firing site, and (3) shooter licensing restraints. If a professional show is not feasible, a consumer show is, in many circumstances, an excellent alternative! A consumer show can be professionally fired, and this allows it to be just as impressive and memorable as a bigger display.

Endless Possibilities
The determining factor for the type of show is all about the fireworks used. All fireworks in Canada are monitored and administered by Energy, Mines, and Resources Canada, (Explosives Regulatory Division). Professional or display fireworks in Canada are classed F2, and are for the most part high-level, shell-type fireworks. Professional fireworks need a licensed pyrotechnician to shoot the show; they need a large amount of fallout area, insurance, and a permit from the local fire department. Consumer fireworks (class F1) do not need a licensed tech to shoot; they are the type of fireworks found in variety stores or road side vendors, available to the public for holidays such as the Canada Day and Victoria Day long weekends. Depending on the municipality, there are restrictions as to when you can sell and fire these products. These restrictions range from one week around Canada and Victoria days in most southern Ontario towns and cities to 365 days a year in tourist type areas north of Barrie. You must be 18 years of age to purchase and fire any pyrotechnic articles in Canada.
At North Star, we fire all our shows professionally and use 90% type F2 fireworks. However, in places like the pond area at Village at Blue Mountain (see above), where the fallout area is tight, we shoot many shows there using type F1 consumer products. In the town of Blue Mountains there are local bylaws about shooting F1 fireworks so a permit is still needed through the local fire department to shoot. Consumer Show Pricing
We can look after your needs in any scenario! If you want a professional show, then we'll certainly give you and your guests something to remember. If your budget is smaller (under $3,000), we can look after that with either all consumer or a combination of both consumer and professional fireworks. If your budget is smaller yet, we can look after that too or you can fire it yourself, so long as you are following the guidelines of your local bylaws. We can only sell that scenario in the K/W area a week before Canada day and week before Victoria Day.
We are offering very special pricing on F1 Consumer packages. The kit we are making available is $1,000, and except for 2 foot sparklers, the kits are all high end cakes and barrages, just the good stuff! It will be shipped to your house at no extra charge. These kits are not shrink wrapped in frilly packaging that the big box store sells. They're shipped in plain cardboard boxes, so you are not paying for glossy graphics and plastic packaging.
